Or April anyway. One of my first acylics was selected to be in our calender. This is a 11X 14 linen canvas board, and I used Chroma Interactive Acylics. I named it Midday Shower, because April showers bring May flowers.

Or my rendition of the home and studio. There wasn't much wind, but alot of rain. It is a cheap canvas panel, and it warped very badly. After 7 hours under the umbella, and then out in the pouring rain for near an hour to be judged and displayed, I am surprised that it didn't come unglued. Oh well it was kinda fun, my other art friends were up on the porch with everyone else. I planned to get away from the crowd this year, and not too many people can down to see what I was doing.

Rainy Day Paint-Out

It's May and here I am all ready for my first paint out of the year. Unfortunately it has rained all night and will be raining off and on all day. I was glad I had brought my umbrella, but it didn't help to dry the acrylic paints. This was a hard day to paint with them, and that is my excuse.

Painting from my Heart

There was a light snow on the ground yesterday morning and the whole day was cold and gray. When I came home I decided it was a good time to work on a gray scale. After I mixed up all the grays I decided to paint a canvas paper with the pallete knive. I now have a painting done in one day that I am proud of. I see a composition in it, although you may have to squint, turn upside down, or use a mirror to see it.

I have repainted this painting, I wasn't very happy with it's depth or the creek running through it. I decided to change the creek to a cow path, and I added some depth by scumbling over the field and observing the Vanishing Point in the rows of corn. When I accidently grabbed green off the pallette and added it to the sky, I decided it was time to take a break.

Since I really need to practice my imprimatura painting, as well a scumbling, you may just see a painting # 3 on this subject.

My painting in one day

Below is a painting that I made up in my head, but it is a farm scene you may see anywhere here is Southern Indiana. I started it by sketching it out on a 4 X 6 sketch pad, then I drew it on a 9 X 12 sheet of acrylic paper with a cool # 5 gray copic pen. I put two layers of binder over the drawing, unfortunately that caused the paper to buckle up. The next morning after it had completely dried it laid flat and smooth, I had to get my paints out and start right away. I did stop for lunch and I watched my grandaughter for a few hours, but got right back to it.
I am calling it finished, I like it, it shows alittle depth, but it isn't all that great. I learned some about mixing the paint, but I have alot of practice ahead of me. This is one of my first attempt's using Acrylic's, they are alot of fun, and that is the whole purpose of my painting.
My goal is to participate in a few plein air paint out's this summer, and create a painting that I am proud enough of to show to other artists.
